Hi folks. This blog was set up as an additional information portal for the Umstead 100 Endurance Run. I know a lot of folks are still a bit insecure about Facebook. This blog ensures no outside entities will be able to access or spam the users here. You can register to get email updates posted here. Happy Running !

One of our race goals is to provide area runners with the opportunity to become ultra runners and although the following is not part of Umstead 100, a unique opportunity has presented itself for NC ultra runners to be a part of running history and we wanted to let you know about it.
On April 19th , as Running Hope Through America, http://www.runhope.com Lisa Smith Batchen, one of the world's premier ultra-runners, will begin her ultra challenge to be the first person to attempt to run 50 miles in each of the 50 states in two months while trying to raise 1 million dollars for ophans in Haiti, the US, India and Ethiopia. Accompanying Lisa on the run will be a small support crew including her good friend and running partner, Sister Mary Beth Lloyd. Sister Mary Beth, 61, belongs to the order of the Religious Teachers Filipini, an order dedicated to education. Members of this order are not allowed to dress in clothes other than a habit. Therefore, Sister Mary Beth will do as she has always done, run alongside Lisa in her full habit: a black wool tunic over a white shirt and underskirt, black headpiece and a black woolen belt. And sneakers.
On May 5th 2010, Lisa and Sister Mary Beth will be running in the Triangle Area. Although the route is still to be determined we can be sure that it will be in the area, it will be a loop route, they will start running at 5:30am and run until at least 5:30 pm - longer if necessary. You can run as little or as much with Lisa as you like, but if you complete the full 50 miles with Lisa you will get a commemorative t-shirt and bragging rights.
If you are interested in joining Lisa and her team while they are in NC go to Join NC link at: http://www.runhope.com/south.html
100% of your donation will go directly to the cause. The Dreamchaser Foundation uses no portion of donations for administration or supplies. Complete details can be found here: http://www.runhope.com

UMSTEAD 100 MILE RUN REGISTRATION POLICY
The Umstead 100 Mile Endurance Run admits runners into the field predominately on a first to register basis. The Race does not distinguish between 100 mile and 50 mile entries for purposes of registration limits. The Race has a limit of 250 runners imposed both by our Park permit and our desire to give the highest quality service to our runners. Runners seeking entry into the 100 mile race must meet the entry criteria listed both on the Entry Form and in the Race Information Packet.
The following guidelines will be used in determining entry into the Race:
1. The Race will accept 280 total entries into the Race including reserved slots listed in items 2, 3, and 4 below. The extra 30 slots, above the 250 limit, will be to account for no shows on race day. This is in agreement with our Park permit. Candidates for the reserved slots should contact the Race Director to discuss availability of and qualification for these slots. The reserved slots, just like general registration, are limited and will be filled by first to request; most of these slots, except competitive, tend to fill within a few days of registration opening.
2. The Race will reserve 10 slots for competitive entries and previous male and female winners of the Race. Competitive is the potential for sub 17 hours for males and sub 18 hours for females on the Umstead course.
3. The Race will reserve 10 slots for members of the “500 Mile Club”.
4. The Race will reserve 10 slots for friends and volunteers of the Race.
5. Slots not utilized for 2, 3 and 4 above, if any, will be allotted to the Official Waiting List.
6. The opening of registration will normally be shortly after Labor Day each year.
7. Race Management will announce the date and time of the opening of registration via the Official Race Website www.Umstead100.org. This website announcement will occur approximately four months before registration opens. No individual notice will be given of the registration date.
8. The race will accept online registration, via www.active.com, up to 200 entries on a first to register basis. All registration, after the 200 online entries, will be via hardcopy postal mail, other overnight mailing methods or hand carried to the RD on a first to arrive basis. In cases of same delivery time, 100 mile entries will be given preference. Hardcopy entries postmarked prior to the day of registration will be held for 7 days past the official opening of registration, prior to processing. All waiting list entries will be taken from hardcopy mail.
9. The Race will maintain an Official Waiting List. Any registered runner who drops from the Race will be replaced, in order, from the waiting list. Race reserved slots not utilized by Race Management will be filled from the waiting list.
10. The Race will return the dropping runner’s entry fee, less the stated administration fee, for entry cancellations up until February 1.
