Hotels
The recommended hotels for the 2016 Umstead 100 are the same as the previous five years: the co-located Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites at Brier Creek.
Both hotels are located at 8021 Arco Corporate Drive, Raleigh, NC. (Google map from hotels to Umstead Park entrance.)
The location is just behind the Brier Creek Shopping Center that is at the intersection of US 70 (Glenwood Avenue) and Brier Creek Parkway.
These hotels are convenient to RDU Airport, which is immediately adjacent to Umstead Park, and there are several eating/shopping establishments near the hotels.
Rooms at the reduced group rate are limited and reservations must be made before March 1, 2016. Once our reserved rooms are exhausted, the hotel will honor the Umstead 100 rate as long as there are available rooms.
Use the top-secret phrase "Umstead 100" when making reservations by phone.

Both hotels offer shuttle service to and from the Raleigh-Durham Airport. Call the hotel when you get your bags for information.
Both hotels will also offer limited shuttle service to and from Race Headquarters at Camp Lapihio. The shuttle service to Race Headquarters should be discussed with the hotel. Race Management has no control over these shuttles. The shuttle to the Park will be limited to a specific time on Friday afternoon and again on Saturday morning. No other Race shuttle service is part of the Race's agreement with the hotels.
Driving Directions to Hotels and Umstead State Park
To the hotels from US 70 (Glenwood Ave.) coming from Raleigh and Umstead Park
Take a left at Brier Creek Parkway; stay in the left-most turn lane. Take the first left (.1 mile) onto Arco Corporate Drive and follow it .4 mile to the hotels. It is 2.3 miles from the Umstead Park entrance to Brier Creek Parkway via US 70.
To the hotels from US 70 coming from Durham
Turn right at Brier Creek Parkway, go immediately to the left most turn lane. Take the first left (.1 mile) onto Arco Corporate Drive and follow it .4 mile to the hotels.
To the hotels from I-540, either direction, using the US 70 Interchange
Exit onto US 70 towards Durham.
At the end of the collector distributor ramps, as you merge
with US 70, go immediately to the left most lane/turn lane. In
.5 mile turn left, at the first stoplight, onto Brier Creek
Parkway; stay in the left most turn lane. Take the first left
(.1 mile) onto Arco Corporate Drive and follow it .4 mile to
the hotels.
Note that Arco Corporate Dr. can be accessed off the I-540/Lumley Road Interchange. For traffic going SW on I-540, Arco is directly across from the end of the exit ramp. For traffic going NE on I-540, take a left at the end of the exit ramp. Go .2 mile to Arco on your right.
To Umstead State Park from the hotels
Take Arco Corporate Drive (0.4 mile) to Brier Creek Parkway. Take a right at Brier Creek Parkway for 0.1 mile. Turn right onto US 70 East and follow it 2.3 miles to the entrance of Umstead Park. You will see a sign announcing "William B. Umstead Park entrance 1000 feet" prior to the park entrance.
Alternate route to Umstead State Park from the hotels
Turn left onto Arco Corporate Drive, go .8 mile to Lumley Road, take a left. Go 1.2 miles (passing by the airport runways) to the interchange ramps at US 70. Turn right onto the ramp before you go under the bridge. Merge with US 70 (Glenwood Avenue) going towards Raleigh. Stay on US 70 for 1.1 miles to the Park entrance on your right.
Tents and RVs
There is a camp ground in the park for tent and RV camping. For information about it, call the Umstead Park at 919-571-4170.
No personal tents or RVs are allowed at Camp Lapihio at any time.
Cabins
For 2015:
There are no more cabins/beds available for runners.
There are, however, a few beds left for volunteers.
We've reserved 40 primitive cabins in Umstead Park.
Runners and crew are welcome to stay in these cabins on a first come, first serve basis. The cabins may be reserved by enclosing payment with your entry form. There will be a $10 per person charge to use the cabins for the weekend.
The cabins are primitive. They are small (150 to 225 sq. ft.), with no electricity or water. They have built in bunks with mattresses, 2 to 4 per cabin. Bring your own bedding (enough to stay warm on a cool night). The cabins provide a roof over your head, but not much more. Adjacent to all cabins is running water, latrines, and showers.
We assign the cabins closest to Race Headquarters first. Twenty-five cabins are in Camp Lapihio and fifteen are half-a-mile away at Camp Crabtree. The cabins have become a popular feature of the race and normally sell out, so get your reservations in early.
Cabins are available to runners from noon on Friday until 1:00 pm on Sunday.
Clean up your cabin before you leave, and do not remove any Park equipment from the cabin at any time. Our continued use of the cabins depends on these two requirements.
We will assign single cabin applicants to share a cabin with other single, same gender, runners. We will make every effort to keep requested groups together.
